4 Graphics to Help Illustrate On-Page SEO
Posted by randfish
For many SEO professionals, on-page optimization is back to basics. But sadly, there seem to be a lot of us who still make some very basic mistakes. In this post, I’ll try to add on to my previous writing on perfecting on-page optimization by sharing some visuals that can hopefully help to hammer key points of the practice home.
#1: The Value of Optimization and the Danger of Overdoing It
I generally abide by the 80/20 rule when it comes to keyword use. 80% of the value to be had comes from 20% of the effort. Nail the title, the headline and make sure the phrase is on the page (and the page is actually on the subject of the keyword) and you’ve done your job. The additional impact on rankings to be gained from perfectly calculating the number of repetitions or ensuring every paragraph fits into the "theme" of the keyword and document is likely to be a waste of time better spent on other priorities. That’s what this graph tries to illustrate:

8 Easy Wins for On-page SEO
Posted by Dr. Pete
Even the best advice is useless if you can’t put it into play. As a consultant who started his professional life as a coder, I always try to consider the effort and cost of implementing any changes I advise. Don’t get me wrong – some difficult changes have to be made, despite the pain. Usually, though, there are a few easy wins that won’t take days of development or thousands of dollars to put into play. I’m going to give you 8 fixes to on-page SEO problems that I see pop up regularly…
“Easy” Isn’t Always Easy
A quick disclaimer – what’s “easy” for one person or on one platform might not be so easy on another. Sitewide changes (TITLE tags, for example) can be tricky, but they’re generally a lot easier than a complete redesign or a switch to a new platform. One area I won’t mention in this list is improving your URLs. Although that can be a powerful tactic, I’m seeing too many people who want to make relatively minor changes to URLs for SEO purposes. Sitewide URL changes are risky and often difficult to… Read the rest

So Much Great New Stuff (On-Page Tool, More Accurate Rankings and a Linkscape Update!)
Posted by randfish
You might have noticed that SEOmoz has been heating up with some spiffy new changes of late. Our engineering and product teams are in a groove, and that means cool new stuff every 2-3 weeks. Last night, some really slick new features rolled out and today, Linkscape’s updated too (our last one was only 21 days ago – meaning data is awesomely fresh).
Let’s start with the fun part.
Our old term target tool has been dying for a long time. In fact, we’ve been wanting to replace it for so long that today, with it’s demise and the birth of the new on-page optimization tool, we simply had to hold a wake.

Our customer service team wore black armbands and brought out a cart with old pictures of the tool, whisky and Guiness.
In fact, we might have gotten a bit carried away. I actually wrote a eulogy (which you can watch on video below thanks to Jamie’s quick thinking):
Yeah, we’re more than a little weird. But we’re also crazy excited about the new On-Page Optimization Report… Read the rest

LDA – Is On-Page Optimization the SEO Secret?
Posted by Dana Lookadoo
This post was originally in YOUmoz, and was promoted to the main blog because it provides great value and interest to our community. The author’s views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of SEOmoz, Inc.
How do I recap the SEOmoz PRO Seminar session on Uncovering a Hidden Technique for SEO? The title is so attractive that it produces Pavlonian symptoms as we salivate at the thought of uncovering a hidden SEO treasure. Ben Hendrickson of SEOmoz presented a model which appears to show how Google may assigning relevance to keyword terms based on context – topical relevance.
Is Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) that hidden jackpot?
1st – LDA is not new nor something SEOmoz invented. The Information Retrieval model has been around for 7 or 8 years, and IR geeks have talked about it before. There are a number of resources, as well as nay saying, about LDA and Google’s possible use of it.
2nd – What is new… Read the rest
